Today was a geocaching day.
OK. So was yesterday ;) This time, off to discover a new city: Macau. Great caches hidden by AirQ and a lot of fun discovering this hybrid city half-Asian, half-Portuguese. This was my 35th country. The WAYFARER EVENTS went off to a great start yesterday evening in Hong Kong.
Meeting by the Old Clock Tower, near the Harbour, a multinational group gathered to discuss our common craze and sign or rather decorate the logbook. What was supposed to be a casual "meet & greet" ended up as nightcaching with most of the group. A newcomer even made his caching debut that night. Great memories, great fun and a promise to come back once the logbook is a bit fuller. Thanks Hong Kong for the magnificent welcome and Jo'Burg is up next to try and make its marks in the LogBook! Who will end up being the most decorative city?... To be followed! The event is up and running! 'Hope you'll make it... "'Cos if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere!" ;)
Details here [iphone trick] Whenever I stumble upon a new geocaching trick, I like to share it!
And I've just found out a new one... Before going out into the tough geocaching world, taking a peek at Google Street View is sometimes a good help. But it's not easy on a smartphone. Although it does require a few steps, this can save your day! You need the Geosphere App and Streets - The Street View app Let's start with the Geosphere App. When I've found a desirable tupperware, I look to the bottom of the cache page and select: - Road in Maps (I get sent to the Apple Maps App) - There, you must choose "ROUTE" and tap the bus icon - this offers you the possibility to pick the Streets App. - Voila! The Street View is yours and you get a charming blue dot where the cache is supposed to be (is the cache owner posted accurate coordinates, that is). Needless to say, it only works where Street View is available! Go get it! ;) Did it! My personal Geocoin has passed the 1 000 000 km milestone (1002507.2km to be exact)! I definitely work too much... It took it 3 years to get there... Now, should I keep taking it on my travels or should I start a new one? Yeah, right, one word comes to mind: "messy" ! LOL!
The Johannesburg Event has been published. Already 1 "will attend".
And now you will have to wait for September 25th to get two new dates... Be good and have fun caching! (Off to a D5 with UV lamp this afternoon, fun!) |
